• Is Your Newsletter a "Fixer-upper"?

The newsletter is a tried and true way to keep association members up-to-date on the latest happenings in your office and the world. But when was the last time you updated your newsletter? Is it your basic, cookie-cutter, newsletter? Now is the time to renovate this essential communication tool!

Is your newsletter of the print and mail variety? If so, that is not necessarily a bad thing, but a digital version absolutely should be added.  Temporarily ceasing the printed version in an effort to save money during lean budget times will have less hiccups if a digital version is already in place. If you use an email service like Mailchimp or Constant Contact, digital newsletter templates are readily available, and, super easy to customize and incorporate into your ongoing campaigns. Many websites have plugins that will pull your newsletter onto your website.

Review the elements of your newsletter. Does it contain the standard information?

    • Association name
    • The logo
    • Issue date and volume number
    • Table of contents and page numbers
    • Informative stories
    • Calendar of events
    • Continuing education information and links
    • Important legislation

The design, or layout, of your newsletter should not be overlooked. Templates are an easy fix and you can customize with your logo and official color(s). A clean, simple design works best and makes your newsletter easy to read. Less is more! Photos add interest and break up blocks of text, but, remember to get permission from your members if you use event pictures. If you pull a photo off the the internet, make double sure you can use it. Your content should be as professional as the layout, and, don’t forget to edit! Nothing affects your credibility more than a tYpo.
